Executive Director Stephanie Govatos We are one month and $2700 away from this year’s 4th of July fireworks celebration. Although we are inching towards our goal, we still need your help to reach it. At this point last year I was only $1500 short of the goal and because of tough economic times, our donations are down and I am starting to get very worried. Because we are so far from our goal I am once again asking you to make even a small donation; every little bit helps. So far I have had donations turned in from families for as little as $20 and from companies for as much as $200 plus everything in between. The chamber is happy to coordinate this fun celebration every year however we couldn’t do it without such wonderful community support. There is a few other fun things happening prior to the 4th of July that I’d like to bring up as well. First of all, the weekend of June 12th and 13th will be Blackfoot Pride Days. There will be lots of fun things to see and do Thursday, Friday and Saturday. As in years past there will be free tours offered at the Potato Museum, the Historical Society office and the Historical Museum. Again the Blackfoot pool will offer free swimming on Friday and down at Jensen Gove on Friday and Saturday there will be games and activities being put together by the Blackfoot Community Center. To end the first day of Pride Days be sure to hit Rupe’s night. Kevin and his staff always put on such a good time! Saturday the 13th will start out with a free breakfast offered by On the Spot Cleaning and Restoration. Throughout the day there will be food and retail vendors for you to browse through, fabulous vintage cars to see, this year moving to Veteran’s Park, and free potatoes to be eaten. And finally, at 3pm Saturday June 13th the Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce will draw the winning ticket for our fabulous 4-wheeler, 42” flat screen TV and the Wii game system! This will be a culmination of three months of hard work put in by the chamber staff and Board of Directors. There are still tickets left for purchase here at the chamber office and we will sell the remaining tickets on that Saturday up until 3pm or until our 3,000 tickets are gone so get them early! On a final note, I wanted to put a plug in for the Relay for Life Event being held on June 19th and 20th. Registration will begin at 5pm and the official opening ceremonies will commence at 6pm. This event runs all night and into Saturday morning ending with a closing ceremony and breakfast. Entertainment, food and lots of activities are available all night long so please come out any time and enjoy the festivities. All of the fun things Blackfoot has planned for the summer could not be pulled off without the support of the business community and most of all the community members who volunteer many hours to make them happen. I personally want to thank all of you volunteers who work year after year to make Blackfoot a fun, exciting place to live. |
