President’s Message
Curtis Green

Draw positive attention to Blackfoot Businesses:

With the first day of spring, also came sunshine, melting snow, and like it or not, the time for spring cleaning. When I moved to Blackfoot 26 years ago, I came during this time of year. I had never been to Blackfoot before and knew nothing of the town or businesses. I am sorry to say that my first impression of Blackfoot was not a good one. Unfortunately the melting snow had uncovered a season of garbage and debris around our wonderful town.

Living in Blackfoot for the past 26 years I have learned to appreciate all that the Blackfoot businesses have to offer. How do we show this to the residents of Blackfoot and the many visitors that will be coming to Blackfoot this spring and summer? How do we let them know we are glad they are here and we want them to stay and shop in our stores, have dinner in our restaurants, spend the night in our hotels, and utilize the many services we have to offer?

What is more pleasant than to drive into a clean parking lot, walk up to a well manicured landscape, and enter a clean business and to be greeted by employees that take pride in the business they work for.

We have many events coming this spring and summer to Blackfoot. April 11 will bring the Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the chamber. April 2 BPAC will sponsor the Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie. The increased hours of the Potato museum for the travel season, later this spring, Pride days, Relay for Life, summer fireworks display, and the list goes on. These events as well as others scheduled for the spring and summer will draw many visitors from outside Blackfoot into our town.

As President of the chamber of commerce I challenge all Blackfoot businesses to take an honest look at your business. Does your parking lot need swept and garbage removed, do your windows need cleaned. Do you need to spruce up your curb appeal? Are your employees giving the best customer service? If not, let us get to work as a community, to let all residents and visitors to Blackfoot know we are glad they are here and want them to come again.
We can complain all we want about the economy and other world matters, but a lot of that is out of our hands. Let us do something about what we can change. If we want people to stay and shop in Blackfoot let us show them that first and foremost we care about Blackfoot and care about them. We need to show them we have pride in our businesses. We need to give them the best that we have to offer. If we want the public to stay and shop in Blackfoot, we need to give them a reason not to shop elsewhere.
Have a wonderfull spring Season.
