President’s Message Butch Hulse The election is over. When I wrote this article I didn’t know who won or even if we know who won today. I do know that we have been bombarded with political campaigning. I don’t understand why campaigning has to be so negative. I don’t know about you but for me I’m glad it’s over. I do know that it’s time to look to the future and come together as one nation. I am sure there are wounds that will heal with time, I hope so anyway. I would like to see a third party or no parties at all. It seems to me that the leaders of the parties work for the party’s agenda and not the people’s agenda. If we had a third party then maybe there would not be such a party line vote. I think I know what the founding fathers had in mind, but I’m sure they had no idea of what was going to happen. They wanted to be visionaries and they did a great job. I don’t know if back in 1776 there were lobbyist that had the money and power over the men and women in the leadership. I know there weren’t any oil companies, insurance companies or drug companies, etc. The good thing is now its time to move forward. I voted so I can complain. Health Care, one half of all bankruptcies are because of health care bills. It’s sad that people have worked all their lives and end up with cancer or some other disease and all their savings are gone in a heart beat. We would all be surprised to know about all the fraudulent health care bills that are paid. We could save a lot of money if the legislature would hire more fraudulent detectives to check into this. One of the issues with this election has been raising taxes. Where are we going to get this 7 billion plus dollars? I have an idea, why don’t we quit spending money on countries that don’t even like us, and don’t want us interfering in what is going on in their country. We blow up their countries and then go back and spend billions to rebuild them, what about the good old USA for a change. I need to get off my soap box and talk about fun stuff. The Chamber has set up a tour of the INL (Idaho National Laboratory) on November 18th. This is a good chance to see many of the workings there. Anyone interested in taking this tour is welcome to call Stephanie at the Chamber office. The Second Annual Holiday Parade is going to be the Friday after Thanksgiving. The rules are simple, light up anything that can be rode, rolled, walked or dragged and join in the fun. We have some entries already but would like to see many more. The parade starts at the fair grounds and works its way thru downtown Blackfoot, not sure where it will end but we are working on it. Paula’s garden has now frozen and there will not be any more home grown veggies till next summer, but we will survive. She is already planning next summer’s garden at leaving out some of the stuff that didn’t grow so good this year. Who says California girls can’t grow gardens. Our last month’s chamber luncheon was my favorite. It was the awards for the men and women of law enforcement and firefighters. The Chief of Police, Sheriff and Fire Chief selected the recipients. These men and women are Blackfoot’s finest; Kudos to all of them. I have one last thought for this month. As of today we have a new President, what do you think the talk radio stations will have on their agendas to talk about now? I spend a lot of time driving with my job listening to talk radio. I am so looking forward to something new to hear about. I don’t understand why bad mouthing each other has become such a way of life in the political world. Guess its time to move on to something else, any suggestions? Until next month… Remember that what is going to happen is going to happen. Its how we deal with it that makes the difference. |
